National Restaurant Association praises House passage of bill to delay DOL overtime rule

Washington, D.C.) Today the National Restaurant Association issued the following statement regarding the House passage of the Regulatory Relief for Small Businesses, Schools, and Nonprofits Act (H.R. 6094) which would delay the Department of Labor’s overtime regulation for six months:

“We are grateful that Congress stood with small business and passed the Regulatory Relief for Small Businesses, Schools, and Nonprofits Act. We thank Congressman Walberg (R-MI) for his leadership in getting this bipartisan legislation introduced and passed quickly through the House. With a December 1 implementation deadline looming, we have been working closely with members of the House on finding long-term solutions. This legislation is a much needed short- term fix for small businesses as they begin to navigate the Department of Labor’s onerous overtime rule. We continue to work with key senators on both sides of the aisle to find a resolution in both Houses. We hope the Administration will listen to Congress, stand with small businesses and give Main Street relief.”

The Department of Labor’s updated federal overtime regulation takes effect Dec. 1, 2016. The National Restaurant Association has been working closely with members of Congress to find solutions for our membership as they navigate this rule. With the passage of H.R. 6094 in the House, the Association is asking the Senate and the Administration to listen to the concerns of small businesses and act quickly.
