The restaurant industry shed jobs for the fourth consecutive month in October, according to preliminary figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Restaurant Industry Staffing Trends Were Mixed in Recent Months
Within the restaurant industry, employment trends were mixed in recent months, according to figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The fullservice segment shed jobs at a 0.8 percent rate between September 2008 and September 2009, while limited-service restaurant employment declined 0.5 percent during the same period. In contrast, snack and nonalcoholic beverage bars – including coffee, donut and ice cream shops – posted a 1.3 percent employment gain between September 2008 and September 2009... More »

The average workweek of restaurant industry employees remains on pace to decline for the fourth consecutive year in 2009, according to figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
