The National Restaurant Association has been a longtime supporter of organizations that address the problem of hunger in America. Currently, more than 35 million Americans are at risk of hunger each and every day. In contrast, 96 billion pounds of food goes to waste each year.
Last year, the National Restaurant Association launched a national partnership Food Donation Connection (FDC) to help end hunger, reduce food waste and provide members with the opportunity for potential tax savings. FDC acts as the liaison between the food service companies interested in donating wholesome leftover food and the social service agencies that provide feeding programs for people at risk of hunger. As the liaison, FDC coordinates all aspects of the program so that food companies can take advantage of unrealized tax savings while providing an alternative to discarding surplus food.
